Queen Mary (Home)
Another match another defeat, damnit! But it was a lot closer this time 134-108 I believe, we also managed to win a weapon, Epee 45-44, with a double on the last point!
Our trouble seems to be foil, we always lose that so badly that we never have a chance to make up the ground in the other two weapons. we lost Foil 25-45 in the end and I scored 15 of those points, with 12 against me. Strangely enough I did better in Epee scoring 19 points, for a total of 34. Next week it’s our ‘home’ match against the first team so another loss is on the cards really, although I really think that we can give them a run for their money in places!
We are currently one from bottom in the league with only Hertfordshire below us and they have a better hits difference than us so we must beat them in January - unfortunantley it’s probably going to be on Charlie and I’s 6th Aniversary - so I’m not sure whether I’m going to be able to go! Oh well.

Charlie’s birthday bash
Just a quick reminder, this weekend is Charlie’s birthday and everyone should know what’s going on. I say should as we discovered at the weekend that Charlotte and I both thought that the other had invited Ian, who had no idea about anything! So if you haven’t been invited then you’re welcome to come - James is the only person I can think of that may not know…
It’s going to be a meal and a drink somewhere. If you want to know times etc… then drop me an email and I’ll let you know.

Tenancious D in the Pick of Destiny and what that means for the 19th of December…
Along with Ian, JB and Charlie I went to the Pick of Destiny last night, it was entertaining but not the roaring comedy that I was expecting. I hadn’t heard the music beforehand so it was all new and to be honest it doesn’t sound up to the previous record, that might be harsh though. I think that one of the main things that spoiled it was the fact that I’d seen most of the funny bits before in trailers and/or programs about the film.
*Spoiler(ish)*
The bit that made me laugh the most was the ‘Strawberry river’ bit where they then cut to JB in the water.
*Spoiler Over*
This goes back to what I was saying in the Bond post about the trailers revealing stuff from the film and when I try and stay away from the them. Charlie and I were talking about the D’s film a few days ago and we were saying that there will be funny bits and that it’ll be how they link them together that will decide whether the fim is good or not. Unfourtunatly the film doesn’t really keep the laughs going enough from scene to scene. Again the films funny and as Ian (Who also spotted Lee) says in his post it was a pretty good waste of time - that said I enjoyed it more than Borat. Now some people have been going fucking crazy for Borat but I didn’t think it was that great, perhaps a six and a half. The box office doesn’t seem to agree with me though.
Am listening to the new album and it’s nowhere near the first.
What does this mean for the 19th of December and the D’s gig in London? Well I’d like to think that it gives them more material to draw from that will make it a better show. I think that the main draw for a D gig is going to be them onstage rather than the music par se but they’ve got to have some kick ass tunes to get everyone going and I don’t see that they’ve got any new ones. I’m still looking forward to the gig though - I wonder what the Foo’s are up to around that time of year…?

Hamilton! Fuck Yeah
Mclaren have confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will be Alonso’s patner next year. That’s fantastic news, if he’s managed to carry over the momentum from GP2 then we’ll have someone who’ll make some waves in F1. This also means that with Davidson being confirmed at Super Aguri we’ll have four British drivers on the grid.
I’ve said in the past that Hamilton could be the only reason we’ll have some excitement next year if Honda aren’t on form. Hamilton can win next year and he won’t be put off by Alonso.
Can’t wait for the British GP now! Let’s hope that the cars are more even next year and we get to see all of the drivers contesting the races and the championship.

Fencing St. George Medical (Away)
So this was to be my first away match, and it was in Tooting, London. Not too bad a journey although we did have to get the train there rather than a coach - probably for the best in the end as it meant that we could all do what we wanted afterwards.
The match was meant to start at 2.30pm but it eventually got underway just after three…
…in a squash court…
…yes, a squash court…
…so lets do some elementary mathematics. Squash courts are 9.75m x 6.4m (Apparently), that gives a diagonal of about 11.7. Accounting for the width of a fencing piste at 1.5/2.0 metres that means that the far corners are unusable, so if we’re generous and take a metre off each end that leaves us with a piste 9m long. Piste’s are meant to be 14m long. It’s really hard to fence if you’ve got nowhere to retreat to and even more so when you’re not used to it.
Apart from that we did better overall than last time, coming in at 89-135. We did much better in Epee than before and a tiny bit better in foil. Unfourtuantly we scored slightly less in sabre but overall it was positive.
