Christmas at Vicky & Jon’s

0994803028.jpgJust enjoyed a great Christmas day at Vicky and Jon’s. It was really cool with lots of laughs and loads of unstressful things to do such as Hungry Hippos, Guess who and ‘JB’ Operation! Seriously though we had a great time and thanks to Vicky and Jon for such a groovy day!

Norwich, the fog & Mumble

For the second year in a row our annual trip away before Christmas was to Norwich. Norwich is a really cool city and we really enjoy spending a few days wandering around finishing up our Christmas shopping and drinking Starbucks. It’s also a great break away from Colchester, work and for me especially computers. As part of this trip we try to incorperate a visit to the Cinema and so as I like peguins and Charlotte’s class at School have been asking if she’d seen it we decided that we’d see Happy Feet, the star studded cast esured that the film would be another animated classic.

*Spoiler Warning*

How wrong could we be, Happy Feet is a steaming pile of Guano. There’s no real story, you don’t get into the characters and the apart from a few clever remarks by Robin Williams there’s no humour. How this film kept Bond off the top spot in the US is beyond me!

The story goes something like this, Emperor penguins sing to each other to find a mate - ok I can buy into that - but Mumble cannot sing - still there ok - but he can dance (Well move his feet faster than the other penguins). Now when Mumble starts to get the other penguins into dancing he’s banished. This is when we find out that the penguins are suffering from a food shortage and Mumber decides that he’s going to find out why - hang on where did that come from. Off we go on an adventure full of paper thin characters that contribute nothing to the underlying story apart from some environmental messages. Mumber then ends up chasing the ‘Aliens’ out to sea and winds up in a zoo. From here his dancing sways the worlds leaders to stop fishing around the antarctic and ensure that the penguins have a certain future. What a load of wank, the story just meanders off into the distance with no hope of coming back to tie things together. None of the Stars in this even get close to making you like their characters - Robin Williams comes closest. Big dissapointment.

*End Spoiler*

The Fog that has blighted transport for the last few days was also around in Norwich but it didn’t really affect us as we were walking around!

Off to Norwich…

We’re off to Norwich for a couple of days before Christmas so I won’t be posting for a bit! Hopefully we’ll be all relaxed when we return…
