F1 Preview

I’ve been trying for ages to get a preview together like James and Andi and I’ve just finished it. There’s no images mainly because I don’t have the time at the moment to go and find them!

The preview is on the articles page - go have a look

Good Hunting

Only trouble about articles is that you can’t comment on them!

I’ve got doubts about Massa being able to win things without Schumacher pushing the team too, but we’ll see - either way, I agree, I think we’ll see the championship going to Italy - they definitely have the package to at least get the constructors.

This whole new aero package thing - it is like a lot of constructors are writing off the first 3 races of the season and just using them as extended testing - then launch their new packages once they get to European races again.

It’ll all be about reliability for McLaren!

Can’t wait until it all starts!

You should be able to comment on the main page…

I think that Massa will be able to do it, like you say though Ferrari will feel the loss of Schumacher’s knowledge and setup ability - from what I’ve heard Kimi is nowhere near as hot on that side of things.

McLaren don’t seem to have had any major problems in testing, their main issue seemed to be crashes…

Just read the new rules - did not realise about the safety car thing - very confusing. What I don’t understand is that the pit lane becomes closed when the safety car comes out, to stop splash and dash - but what about a car who was maybe part of the reason the safety car was out, and is missing a nose cone, needs to go into the pits?!

Also, the tyre rule - both compounds have to be used in the race, very interesting. Also, whilst on tyres - have you read alonso’s comments about him (and others) still trying to adjust to bridgestones - interesting stuff, could mean massa has a real strong advantage at the start (also Hamilton may do too, as he has had nothing to get ‘used to/from’). Wonder if it will give barichello a lead over Button?

The pit lane limitations only apply to cars that take on fuel, so they can still come in for repairs etc…

I think that the tyre situation is really weird, it’s meant to make it more interesting but I think it’ll just make it more confusing - depending upon how different the tyres are obviously. If the tyres are really bad we’ll see a return of really short stints to limit the effect of the tyre.

I think that all the Drivers complaining are girls. They should get on with their jobs and stop moaning and building in excuses to coverup poor performance! I think it will have an effect if they are that different, but then it’s meant to be different from last year bridgestones too…

For once I’m quite interested in what happens with the first race, but that’s more for professional reasons, and to see who wins out the FIA or the F1 guys!

Yes, I read that the tyre is so different, its near enough a completely new tyre from last year - suppose they had to do it really.

I think if we see a bad tyre, it would (in my guess) most probably be used early on, fuel light to compensate have a short first stint then change it - chances are as well is one type of tyre will be good for quali, the other for racing - just a guess - but it’ll mean trading off the grid place for a poor opening, etc. I guess it depends on the circuit you’ll be on (also guess you would have the opposite of the above where a team will use the good tyre to open, get some place and some track, then risk and middle/end on the bad tyre).

Also just read about the pit lane, they can take a 10 second time pen if they still choose to come in and get fuel - that could be interesting - seeing a car finish then counting 10 seconds to see if 2nd place can cross the line!

I agree - you do have to wonder about the drivers making excuses before they even get into the car.
