ITV News (ish)
I’m not really one for watching the news very often and I haven’t really been keeping up recently but with living that much closer to Charlie’s school we got home in time for the lunchtime news yesterday. And it was bad.
The ITV news team were reporting on the flooding in Sheffield - now I’ve got nothing against that but the whole broadcast was about that - has nothing else happened. Plus it was like reading the daily mail, each item was presented in a sensationalist fashion with time only given up to stories that show the devestation and problems that the flooding has caused.
Not one story reported on any show of human determination or spirit, I know it was there because when we watched some of the BBC news later on in the day (For other reasons) they showed stories of how people were helping other in any way they could one person had made hundreds of cheese rolls for those that had been flooded and didn’t have access to power or fresh food.
The part of the broadcast that made me laugh was a shot from the helicopter, they were flying over parts of the city and showing how it had been affected. There was a part where the reporter said something like ‘look at this car park where all the cars have been lifed on top of each other’, when the camera shot was over what can only have been a scrap yard - I’m no expert but a flood does not stack half the park neatly on top of the other half!
The lesson - watch the BBC (Abi’s been telling me for years…!)
Good Hunting
Yeah, I really don’t rate ITV news either. Channel4 News is indeed pretty good, and I don’t mind BBC News either. Most of the time I watch Sky News, even though I have this nagging doubt about watching something that is, in essence, Fox News. But… I dunno. They’re usually OK hehe.
There was a flood?
Just kidding.. just kidding.. I thought ITV New’s Flood special was very educational!
Fox News, home of the agenda
Yeah, Abi knows best. There is a reason why the Angel of the Lord came down and changed it to BBC you know! BBC news can sometimes be crap but at least it is a little less crap than the competition. Is Andi trying to piss me off by putting an apostrophe in news? Cos it hasn’t worked.
(mutinous muttering)
Channel 4 news is much better, you have a news at noon and the 7pm news, plus Jon Snow is great at grilling people. Sign up for snowmail, it gives you a good overview of the news in a short email.
