Back from Reading and booking for next year…

Well we’re back from Reading and after a weekend of carefree fun I’m settling into a few days of post Reading blues and listening to all the albums of the bands I liked.

Over the course of the weekend I saw:

Sparta
Maximo Park (Part of)
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (Part of)
Enter Shikari (Stood outside and saw some of their set on a screen)
The Subways
Ash (Stood outside and saw some of their set on a screen)

Eagles of Death Metal
Angels and Airwaves
Nine Black Alps (Stood outside and saw some of their set on a screen)
Pigeon Detectives (Stood outside and saw some of their set on a screen)
Panic! At the Disco
Arcade Fire (Part of)
We are Scientists
Chilli Peppers (About three songs)

Fall Out Boy
Lost Prophets
Nine Inch Nails
Smashing Pumkins

In that mix are some bands that were fantastic and some that were average plus an awful performance from the Chilli Peppers (Sorry Dave and Pam! - although perhaps three songs is not enough to judge them on).

We had a great time and once I have the pictures and Gallery working I’ll post them - at the moment Charlotte has put a selection up on Facebook so you can check them out there!

More later…

Reading!

We’re off to bed soon to get up early in the hope of getting a decent spot in the campsite - and one that’s not under water! I’ll report back after the festival!

Recent Films…

Over the last few weeks I’ve seen several films and thought that I’d cast my brief views on them.

Harry Potter

I enjoyed the film, albeit whilst being a bit confused for part of it. I’ve never read the book so some of the characters are a bit confusing but it flowed nicely and I thought it kept the story going. It did suffer from what I like to call the Two Towers Syndrome (or TTS for Ian) where it’s got no real start or end but I’ll watch the next one when it comes out.

Eragon

For some reason I’ve wanted to see this film for a while - I like John Malkovich and Jeremy Irons but they are underused and the film is paper thin. Apart from that there are some good action sequences and scenery plus the effects are good. It never quite captures the epicness of LOTR though. Considering what it actually is though it’s not awful.

****……

Transformers

How dissapointed was I. Apart from the effects it is very very bad. That’s about all I can muster the effort to say, I was bored about half way through- there’s no way I should have been bored during transformers. The first half is kinda cheesy fun with some really cool action shots but after that it just starts to get dull.

I am one of those people who laugh a Jim Carrey and I was intrigued to see him in a straight role, he pulls of off really well and the film never quite puts you down for the whole length, it’s not really fast paced or anything it just keeps you watching - I really enjoyed it - a good selection for Love Film!

F1 the war rumbles on

42572_1.jpgFerrari and McLaren are neck and neck in the constructors title and the advantage seems to have swung back to the reds with the points lost in hungry - we have Turkey and Monza coming up where the Ferraris should have the advantage. Technically all of this could be academic as McLaren could still be banned for this year and next in September a move that Bernie will be trying to avoid - how much money would that cost him!

Add to that row the simmering relationships at McLaren and I think we’ll see some more fireworks this year - I can’t wait until we see Hamilton and Alonso racing against each other. I do think that Hamilton is starting to show an arrogance now and that Alonso is trying to quell that feeling of dominance that Hamilton has at the moment. To be honest I don’t think that I’d feel any different in their place but after all the do and don’ts isn’t all of this what F1 is about? Alonso shouldn’t have held up Hamilton but if Hamilton wanted to get one over Alonso - why was Alonso in the box ahead of him? We want to see these guys racing on the track not sitting in the pit box so lets stop the childish games and get on with the racing (It’s generating a lot of media coverage though isn’t it…)

Bookkeeping

I’m thinking of adding a few new things to the blog over the next few weeks so if anyone has any ideas or critisms of the blog then let me know.

Things that I’d like to play with:

Layout (making it a bit tidier again)

Colours (making it a little easier on the eye)

Post content (Only putting a section of the text up and having to click through to read the post - I’m not sure about this one - would it put you off reading the posts?)

Comments - email upates

Navigation - what pages do people look at?

Galleries - I was going to put up a gallery page for most images…
