McLaren deducted ALL points

The FIA have decreed that McLaren will lose all their constructors points for this year (And they haven’t ruled out further sanctions for next year) and will have to pay a massive $100 million dollar fine. That’s insane. The drivers however walk free.

The ban from this years points hands Ferrari the constructors title but it’s unlikely that either of the Ferrari drivers will overhaul the points that Alonso and Hamilton will get in the coming races. What does this mean for the team, disaster really, not that many people can afford to lose that much money and face and still continue along the path that they were headed down.

I am glad that the drivers haven’t lost out but then it does say in the press release that this is only because of the immunity that the FIA gave them. I’m not sure that they would have punished them anyway - Bernie will have been furious if the best fight for years had been cut short and his blossoming TV revenues had tumbled. To be honest its what I said would happen - they would punish McLaren this year but not the drivers and allow them to start afresh next year - that would have really upset the Driver market if McLaren were banned from next year too.

In short - if they cheated then it’s everything they deserve, if however only Mike Coughlan was the only person to have seen the data then that’s very harsh. Though there must be reasons for it all though.

Will Ron Dennis go? I don’t think so - he’s got a lot of work to do to build a car that will destroy everyone next year and prove that McLaren don’t need a big red book that tells them how to race!

Good Hunting
