Christmas with the Staceys
This year was Libby’s first Christmas and we have been determined to make it fun! And to start off some traditions that we can hopefully keep going. Though I’m not sure about the Cherry Coke for Santa…
I finished work on Christmas eve and our Christmas started then! Up to the pub for a Christmas eve drink with hot chestnuts (it was cake and cheese on Christmas day!) and then home for a cosy night! Libby didn’t know anything was up - well apart from the fact that she thought we were odd putting out mince pies and reading her stories under the tree.
Libby woke up with a smile and set about opening her pressies - she had quite a few! Far too many to list here, you can see most of them in the pictures.
We had a lovely Christmas meal and Libby had a lovely time playing with all of her new toys, though she did enjoy playing with the pair of tights that Mel had bought her for most of the morning.
Boxing day was a nice quiet day that we spent at home playing - Libby enjoyed all of the food that she had been getting too. We were then host to my Parents and Sister the next day for more Libby presents, Libby also went out for her first curry at a buffet! Dave, Tom and Amanda came up the following day; it was great to see them and catch up and another meal out for Libs.
We were then into travelling to see people, with Great Grandad, and Great Grandma/Grandad on the list - more presents for Libby! By now we don’t any space in the Lounge!

Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me.
So Rage Against the Machine made Christmas number one ahead of the X factor winner - should that have a capital ‘F’, I’m not sure. Horay for music in general I say, better an old classic holding the top spot than an unproven guy who from what I’ve heard hasn’t even written anything of his own - not to mention what it sounds like.
With sales of 500,000 to it’s name Killing in the Name beat Joe McElderry’s by 50,000 apparently [1], that’s a lot of downloads from lets face it, people who already own the song. There is a funny bit in the bbc article that Charlie pointed out where they are trying to say that the bad weather may have stopped people buying the X factor single - but there wasn’t a Rage single out - and it wouldn’t have stopped downloads. There’s also a “great” piece about the track here. What does this say other than half a million people in Britain are up for a laugh?
Well I think it does say something, the other day there was the news that people were still downloading music illegally and that all the legal services hadn’t made a huge dent in this activity. Perhaps this is because music isn’t what it once was and people want to buy decent music? Who want’s to pay premium prices for music that they either already own or know is years old? With the loss of Woolworths and Virgin/Zavvi from the UK highstreet there aren’t that many places to pick up older music other than HMV which I wouldn’t class as cheap in any reality.
Give people the justification to buy music and they will - people aren’t afraid to use the music services, as we’ve seen here, it’s just that the content isn’t great or isn’t value for money - I think the second point is the more likely. I think that the music industry needs to turn into more of a mass market, more for less you might say. Or it might all just be a lot of people hate Simon Cowell. It’ll also give the Daily Mail something to rant about.

Grab your torch and pitchforks
It’s not really anything to do with pitchforks or ogres but hundreds of people walking along with torches (yes real flaming torches) does make me think of pitchforks and hunting ogres. Nasty creatures CR 3 I believe.
Anyway we went to the 38th Annual Carol Service in Halstead where everyone gets to carry a lit torch down the highstreet to the park before singing carols. Libby loved it all, lots of people around and lots of things to point at which is her favourite thing at the moment. It was a fun thing to do and we saw loads of people we know - I’m not sure how we’ve missed this for the past two years - it’s strange the things that having children makes you do I guess!

Norwich near Christmas
This year we thought that we’d like to take Libby somewhere once the festive season had started - for all those out there who say “Not Yet!” I have an 11 month old daughter it’s started already, ok! - so as we normally get up to Norwich around this time of year and the Travelodge had cheap rooms we thought that it would be ideal.
We travelled on the train again which Libby loved, as you can see below she liked looking out of the windows as we were going along and reading her book on the way home. Once we were there we spent mainly our time wandering around the shops and eating out, with Toosties, La Tasca and Nandos all being frequented, Starbucks also had their fair share. Libby loved all of the Christmas lights and decorations that were up everywhere and kept pointing at her favourites, though the main use for pointing is still what type of food she wants next ;).
